LUWAN. Tai Chi loyalists gather daily, from 6am to 8am, at this park, and the sight of hundreds of people in synchronized movement is breath taking. Fuxing Park is classic French in design and showcases symmetrical fountains and flowerbeds. There are also statues commemorating Trotsky and Lenin. A favorite hangout for people of all ages, a leisurely stroll will reveal old men playing chess as well as lovers holding hands. The park is near two chic restaurants and the popular ShangART gallery. METRO: Line 1, Shanxi Nan Lu

HUANGPU. Located on the northern end of the Bund, this scenic and pleasant park stretches along the Suzhou Creek. There are several "hero" monuments through its greenways. The park gained notoriety at the start of the 20th century for posting a sign that said: "No Dogs or Chinese Allowed." METRO: Henan Zhong Lu (Line 2)

HUANGPU. Located by People's Square, this recently renovated park is beautiful. Traditionally Chinese in layout, it features a lotus-filled pond and rock formations. Historically, the area sits on what was once the Shanghai racetrack. METRO: Remin Park

XUHUI. This expansive natural flower garden is home to a range of flower and plant species. View natural poplar groves, orchid and rose gardens, a large collection of birds, including ostriches and peacocks, plus a traditional Chinese-style garden and a small lake with paddleboats. METRO: Line 1, South Station

NANSHI. Located in the Yuyuan Bazaar, these beautiful gardens are modeled in the style of the Ming Dynasty. As traditional Chinese gardens, they feature rock formations, bridges, and alcoves with dragon walls, as well as a range of flower and plant species native to the region. A welcome respite from the bustle of the city.
